Eternal Child

Uncle Paul

Isadora’s beloved late maternal uncle Paul, a 6'4" Iowa farmer and all-around great guy, for whom this funeral song was written after his untimely death of cancer in 1988. His generous loan to Isadora when she was 13 of his guitar from the Elvis craze, until she could get one of her own, had very happy consequences.

Birth to death, death to rebirth
Eternal child of Mother Earth
Whate’er thy spirit’s path may be
Our love and prayers shall go with thee

All that comes from the Lady’s hand
One day must be given back again
But the grain that falls to the Reaper’s blade
Into the Bread of Life is made

(Repeat refrain)

The Lady’s ways are a mystery
But this I know, and this can see
That the winter always turns to spring
And the darkest hour the dawn does bring

(Repeat refrain twice)
